Black Works Studio (BLK WKS) showcased a new release at this year’s PCA in Las Vegas; POISON DART. Hand crafted at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua.
POISON DART is a small batch release offered exclusively to retailers attending the PCA trade show this year.
"Poison Dart is the latest addition to the BLKWKS limited edition portfolio. This cigar is bold yet refined. Pepper and chili spice are layered with a mix of citrus, cedar, and herbal tea notes. The spicy mix of filler tobacco pairs perfectly with the rich, complex profile of the Brazilian Matafina wrapper. It’s something unique and different for the BLKWKS lineup,” says James Brown, creator of Black Label Trading Co./Black Works Studio and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, citrus, brown sugar, cinnamon, toffee, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice start.
At the first third (22 minutes) I had the same basic flavors but the black coffee is very elevated and it has some earthiness. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is a lot of black coffee with a hint of toffee with very good lingering black pepper. The black coffee with earthiness hurts the sweetness somewhat. I rated the first third 93.
As I moved through the second third (36 minutes) the sweet notes made a big move up. The citrus and toffee are very nice. I still had the brown sugar and cinnamon too. The black coffee and earthiness are still there but the sweet notes have really come out nicely. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The finish is toffee with a little earthiness and very good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 95.
The cigar lasted 51 minutes. The toffee has moved to the front. The citrus is secondary. The other notes are still in play. The black coffee and earthiness are still under control and they round out the cigar. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is a lot of toffee and very good lingering black pepper. I held the score of 95 for the final third. Another great creation from James Brown.
