E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023 Robusto (5 x 50)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

The latest installment of E.P. Carrillo’s Short Run line won’t be coming from the Dominican Republic, rather, it will come from Honduras as Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. is producing the line.

According to a report by Cigar Aficionado, the line uses an Ecuadorian Havana binder, a Nicaraguan binder, and a mix of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco in the filler. It is being offered in three vitolas:

E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023 Robusto (5 x 50) — $10.75 (Box of 24, $258) REVIEWED TODAY

E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023 Toro (6 x 52) — $11.75 (Box of 24, $282)

E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023 Gordo (6 x 60) — $12.75 (Box of 24, $306)

Production is reportedly limited to 1,250 boxes of the robusto and toro sizes, while the gordo is limited to just 625 boxes.

The cigar is dark and well made. It has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was a little firm but workable. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, citrus peel, underlying cedar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and light black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 to 7 1/2. Not a bad start.

At the first third (21 minutes) the flavors are much like they were at light up. The black coffee has come up a little. The citrus and citrus peel are combining nicely with the brown sugar. This is one of those cigars that you must smoke very slowly. Allow the smoke to stay in your mouth and release it slowly allowing the palate to give you the flavors. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is a hint of citrus and dry nutmeg with good lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (44 minutes) the black coffee is continuing to rise. There is also some nutmeg in the mix of flavors. The sweet notes are not quite as prominent. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish citrus, citrus peel, and nutmeg with good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour. The citrus notes came out nicely again. There's underlying citrus peel, cinnamon, and a good level of black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish has a little more citrus, lighter citrus peel and nutmeg, and good lingering black pepper. The cigar got to the level of the first third in enjoyment. I rated the final third 93.

Overall Score: 92.67
