Emilio Cigars is pleased to announce the release of the Grimalkin Seasonal Edition: Hand crafted in Esteli, Nicaragua at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

Grimalkin Seasonal is being released in time to enjoy for Halloween and fall festivities. “To celebrate one of my favorite times of year, Grimalkin seasonal is back. We changed things up a bit this time around. The blend of filler tobacco has stayed the same, but we did a dual wrapper, closed foot and a rabito cap. The Grimalkin has rich, intense flavors of dark fruit, herbal cedar notes and mild baking spice on the layered, complex finish,” said James Brown, of Black Label Trading Co and Fabrica Oveja Negra.

Blend and Origin:

Country of Origin: Nicaragua

Wrapper: Ecuador Maduro and Corojo dual wrapper

Binder: Nicaraguan Habano

Filler: Nicaragua

Robusto 5 x 50 (25 count) MSRP $11.00

The cigar is nicely made and the dual wrapper looks nice. The foot is closed and the cigar has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were apricot, brown sugar, citrus, earthiness, and black coffee. There is quite a bit of earthiness and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 8.

At the first third (19 minutes) the black coffee is really coming through. I still had the apricot, brown sugar, and a twinge of citrus but there is quite a bit of earthiness and black coffee. There has been an increase in the earthiness and black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with good lingering black pepper. There is nice sweetness but there is even more dark notes. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (38 minutes) the black coffee continues to rise. The apricot notes are light and the brown sugar notes are even lighter. I didn't have the citrus notes any more. And there's a lot of earthiness and black coffee. The black pepper is still very good. The finish is unchanged but the lingering black pepper is very good. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 54 minutes. This is a different type cigar for James Brown. It's quite heavy on coffee and earthiness. In the final third, if you go very slow, you can get a decent amount of the apricot and brown sugar. You'll still get lots of earthiness and black coffee. The black pepper was go throughout the cigar. At this point the cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish has a hint of apricot and black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 92. Pretty good cigar but very dark noted.

Overall Score: 92.33
