Supreme Leaf Perfecto (6 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

Most of the time, a cigar company will choose unique dimensions for each one of the sizes within a line. Every once in a while, there might be an instance when a particular blend is sold in a 6 x 52 toro and also a 6 x 52 torpedo, but even that is fairly rare.

AGANORSA Leaf has bucked the trend entirely by shipping the third different vitola in the Supreme Leaf line that measures 6 inches by 54 ring gauge.

The Supreme Leaf Perfecto (6 x 54) is the seventh vitola for the Supreme Leaf line, which is a Nicaraguan puro highlighted by a corojo 99 wrapper. Supreme Leaf debuted in 2020 and has been offered in various shapes, though all of them have been between 5 and 6 inches long and most have been 52 or 54 ring gauge.

The MSRP for the Supreme Leaf Perfecto is set at $16.99 per cigar and this shipment is limited to 1,500 boxes of 10 cigars. Those cigars will only head to retailers that are AGANORSA Select Accounts, a retail loyalty program used by the company.

“Our Aganorsa Leaf Select Partners choose each year to make a significant commitment to our brands,” said Terence Reilly, vp of sales and marketing for AGANORSA Leaf, in a press release in September. “We wanted to reward them with an exclusive size of our most coveted cigar.”

Supreme Leaf is made at the company’s factory in EstelĂ, Nicaragua.

The cigar is beautiful and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was firm. I decided to give it a try but after lighting the cigar it would not draw well enough to continue. I used the PerfecDraw tool to open the draw. The initial flavors at light up were light citrus and brown sugar with heavy earthiness and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7. Based on other samples I expect things to change by the first third.

At the first third (34 minutes) the combustibility of the cigar is very bad. It's not burning well. It seems to want to go out. You have to pay attention while smoking the cigar. The flavors, however, did improve. The citrus and brown sugar notes are coming out better but there is still a lot of earthiness and leather. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is a hint of citrus and a lot of earthiness and leather with good lingering black pepper. This cigar does not taste nearly the same as last year's toro, which was one of my top cigars of 2023. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (58 minutes) the combustibility has slightly improved but it's still not great. Not a lot has changed. The earthiness and leather have increased a bit. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The flavors aren't popping the way they have in other vitolas of this cigar. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. The earthiness and leather pulled back a little allowing the citrus and brown sugar to increase. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I'm still not happy with the combustibility. With the modest improvement I went back to 92 for the final third. I wish I had better news but this cigar did not do it for me. Hopefully the Rothschild that comes out in March will be better.

Overall Score: 91.67
