The cigar is very well made and has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very firm. I expected that due to the way it is shaped. After 9 minutes the initial flavors were muffled tart black cherry, a lot of bakers chocolate, and black coffee with some earthiness. There are much more of the darker notes than the black cherry. There was black pepper at 7. Not the greatest of starts.
At the first third (52 minutes) the cigar is burning very slowly. It's having some wrapper issues also. There is some wrapper splitting. It's almost like the cigar is over humidified but I keep my humidors at 62% and this is the last cigar in the bunch that was sent so it's been sitting for several weeks. It must have arrived very humidified. And it's not burning evenly. The notes are about the same. The bakers chocolate is a dry flavor with no sweetness. The black cherry is tart and you get it initially but it's quickly followed by a lot of bakers chocolate and black coffee. The combination is not a flavorful result. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is a faint version of black cherry with average or below lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 88.
As I moved through the second third (1 hour 44 minutes) the cigar is still very tight and dense. I used the PerfecDraw in the first third but even with it's sharpness I barely got 2 inches into the cigar. It helped a little but not much. The cigar has developed a lot more black coffee. The black cherry notes are decreased and the bakers chocolate is still there but by far the lead flavor is the black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the second third 86.
The cigar lasted 2 hours 40 minutes. The cigar made some improvement. In fact, it's better now than at any time. Now there is a lot of black coffee and brown sugar with some black cherry notes. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is black cherry with very good lingering black pepper. So, the cigar made a nice improvement. The cigar continued to burn unevenly and the wrapper still had issues. But the flavors improved enough to rate the cigar 89. This is a pricey cigar but the burn time is very good. I was not particularly impressed with the flavors, though. Of the bunch, the lancero is by far the best.
