The Perdomo Legacy line, a trio of cigars that Nicholas Perdomo III created in honor of his father, Nick Perdomo Jr., has gone on sale at Two Guys Smoke Shop, which held the official launch event earlier this week.
The line is centered around a new Cuban-seed/Cameroon-seed hybrid that was developed by Perdomo and grown on the company’s Finca Natalie farm in Estelí, Nicaragua. The company says that the mineral-rich volcanic soil created the perfect environment for cultivating a rich, flavorful tobacco that delivers a unique balance of strength, sweetness and spice.
All of the lines use it in one form or another. For the Perdomo Legacy Ecuadorian Connecticut version the hybrid leaf is used for the binder. As indicated by its name, the Perdomo Legacy Ecuadorian Connecticut used an Ecuadorian-grown, Connecticut-seed wrapper atop the hybrid binder and a Nicaraguan filler. The wrappers also get 10 years of aging. This is a medium-bodied blend that is described as smooth and creamy with subtle hints of spice on the finish.
All three blends are available in the same three sizes and price points:
Robusto (5 x 54) — $13 (Box of 24, $312)
Epicure (6 x 54) — $13.50 (Box of 24, $324) REVIEWED TODAY
Churchill (7 x 54) — $14 (Box of 24, $336)
Gordo (6 x 60) — $14.50 (Box of 24, $348)
Belicoso (6 x 60) — $15 (Box of 10, $150)
The Gran Belicoso is notable for two reasons: first, it gets a box-press, and it is offered in 10-count boxes as opposed to the 24-count boxes used for the other sizes.
The cigar is medium to golden brown and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were lime with a lot of brown sugar, cinnamon, thick underlying cream, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Very nice start.
At the first third (22 minutes) the lime is a little more pronounced, there's still a lot of brown sugar, cinnamon, cream, and a lot of black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. The lime and brown sugar are combining very well, then add it some cinnamon and cream. Nice flavor combination. I rated the first third 94.
As I moved through the second third (54 minutes) I had nice lime, quite a bit of brown sugar, a little cinnamon, subtle cream, and black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is lime with brown sugar and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar has changed a little in percentages but the score remains the same, 94.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 27 minutes. The cigar remained consistent. Not much changed. The only thing of note is the cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I held the score of 94. I found this to be a very good Connecticut cigar. It has very nice flavors and adequate strength for any seasoned smoker. Nick Perdomo III did a great job on all 3 variations. I'm quite sure Nick, Jr. is very proud of his creation.
