The Knuckle Sandwich Chef Special 2025 is a 6 x 55 box-pressed toro that uses a Brazilian mata fina wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler.
“The first couple of years, we kept things very approachable,” said Hector Alfonso Sr., master blender for Espinosa Premium Cigars, via a press release when the cigar was announced in April. “But with last year’s broadleaf and now this Brazilian mata fina, we’re turning up the flavor. This year’s blend has a richness we know our fans will love.”
Pricing for the Knuckle Sandwich Chef Special 2025 is set at $16 per cigar and $160 per box. It is produced at the San Lotano Factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua, with production limited to 2,000 boxes of 10 cigars.
The cigar is nicely made and has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were apricot, citrus peel, toffee, brown sugar, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Nice start.
At the first third (22 minutes) I had a lot more of the citrus peel notes with moderate sweetness. There's a lot of black coffee also. The brown sugar and toffee have not developed. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar seems to be in a holding pattern. I rated the first third 93.
Moving through the second third (41 minutes) the cigar is not changing. I did not get the pronounced sweetness that I like. There is a fairly heavy citrus peel note The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the second third 93.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 9 minutes. There is a large presence of black coffee in this cigar. To the point I'd call it espresso. The sweetness did not improve. In fact it slid a little due to the high black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I expected a lot more from a Chef Special. I rated the final third 92.
