Supreme Leaf Gran Toro (6 x 56)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

The Supreme Leaf Gran Toro measures 6 x 56, the thickest Supreme Leaf release to date. This is the 11th different size for the line, which is made up of a variety of limited release sizes. Blend-wise, Supreme Leaf is a Nicaraguan puro that uses tobacco grown on AGANORSA’s farms.

Each cigar has an MSRP of $15.95 and this batch is limited to 3,000 boxes of 10 cigars. Some Supreme Leaf vitolas have been one-time releases, while others have gotten subsequent shipments.

Perhaps most notably, this is the first vitola to use the line’s updated packaging. While it keeps the orange and purple color scheme, the boxes and bands have been slightly updated.

“Supreme Leaf launched five years ago and we wanted to offer a more sophisticated look to celebrate our most exciting brand,” said Terence Reilly, vp of sales and marketing for AGANORSA Leaf, in a press release when the cigar was announced in March. “The packaging update is intended to capture the striking design of the original and add an elegance to the presentation. We selected a Gran Toro vitola for this special release because at 6 x 56 it will be the largest format we have ever released in this blend.”

The new bands look nice. The cigar has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, citrus peel, brown sugar, earthiness, and leathery black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 8. Pretty good start.

At the first third (30 minutes) the citrus and brown sugar have decreased from the light up. The citrus peel is coming through a little more than those. And there's a lot of the earthy, leathery black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is leathery black coffee with hints of citrus and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar slid a little from the light up. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 2 minutes) nothing much has changed. By and large the same notes were present. The sweetness in this cigar is not at the level of some others in the line. While not bad, it's just not as good. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. I held the score of 93. The cigar seems to be at a point of moving one way or the other.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 36 minutes. The cigar did indeed make a move. But it was in the negative direction. The sweet notes greatly decreased while the black coffee increased. The earthiness is up also. The leather is light. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The substantial loss of sweetness was enough to lower the final third score to 90. Since this is the largest ring in the series it is apparent that the additional filler did not help.

Overall Score: 92
