Lure CigarsTM is proud to introduce its fourth core line: the Maduro Series. Featuring two box-pressed Nicaraguan puros — “The Brown-E-Trout” (6 x 54 toro) and the new “The Lil’ Trout” (5 x 52 robusto). This line expands on the success of last year’s limited release with richer flavor, full production availability, and signature core line packaging.
These cigars feature a delicious dark chocolate brown, maduro wrapper over binder and filler tobacco from Esteli, Condega, and Jalapa. “Following the popular ‘Catch & Release’ of ‘The Brown-E-Trout’ last fall, we’re excited to bring it back as part of a full-production Maduro line,” says Lou Cross, owner of Lure Cigars. “We’ve also added a second vitola, ‘The Lil’ Trout,’ for those who want a slightly bolder, richer smoke — what we like to call a little more ‘loco in the cocoa.’”
"The Brown-E-Trout" returns as a 6 x 54 box press toro, the strength of the cigar is medium, and full of flavor. Your palate will experience notes of chewy, well-done corner fudge brownie, light baking spices, and warm earthy notes. This cigar produces a thick smoke, with velvety mouthfeel. The last third adds a bit of espresso and pleasant hints of dry cinnamon on the finish. “The Lil’Trout” is a 5x52 box press robusto that has been blended to be a slightly bolder cigar that is medium plus in strength. Flavor notes are similar to those enjoyed in the toro, yet there’s a bit more spice, like an added drop of cinnamon oil, that one enthusiast says reminds him of ‘Mexican Hot Chocolate.’

The cigar is dark and box pressed. It is well made and has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were semi-sweet chocolate, brown sugar, dash of cinnamon, and lime. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Pretty good start.
At the first third (17 minutes) the lime is coming through more. The brown sugar is helping the lime notes. There was still the semi-sweet chocolate. There was a sprinkling of cinnamon. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The finish is chocolate with lime and brown sugar and very good lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 94. I want to see if the semi-sweet chocolate will turn into straight chocolate.
As I moved through the second third (32 minutes) the semi-sweet chocolate is up. The sweet notes have decreased. And there is now some black coffee at the base. The lime has a touch of bitterness. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is medium to full bodied. I rated the second third 92. I didn't care for the drop in sweetness, bitterness, and black coffee which took away some of the sweetness.
The cigar lasted 54 minutes. The sweet notes came back in the final third. The lime and brown sugar work well together. Light cinnamon notes. Semi-sweet chocolate. The black coffee is greatly reduced. The cigar is a sneaky full bodied. The finish is lime and brown sugar with very good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 94. This is a pretty good cigar and a nice start to the new Maduro line.
