Room101 Cigars is re-launching a new version of a fan-favorite smoke just in time for the holiday season. The new Room101 Namakubi Chingon may sound familiar to followers of the brand, but it features a revamped blend and a striking new blue color scheme.
Namakubi, which refers to the severed head of a samurai taken in battle, is a limited-edition cigar produced in partnership with William Ventura and manufactured at Tamboril in the Dominican Republic. Its complex blend features a San Andrés Maduro wrapper, Sumatra binder, and fillers from Pennsylvania (Broadleaf), Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic.
The new Namakubi Chingon (6.5” x 50) delivers a rich and complex smoking experience with an easy draw and full-bodied intensity. Smokers will encounter flavors of dry nut, dark chocolate, espresso coffee, oak, ginger sweetness, and black pepper spice, complemented by aromas of breadfruit, wood, cedar, dark coffee, and dark chocolate. From the first puff, the profile is bold and layered, becoming increasingly intense as the cigar develops—where espresso and oak take on a more pronounced role.
Room101 Founder and Creative Director Matt Booth said, “The magic component of the Namakubi blend is that it is aged mathematically and strategically in the tears of our haters – this is the source of the depth of its deliciousness. It is the taste of victory in the face of adversity.”
Master blender Wiber Ventura added, “It is always an honor to collaborate with my dear friend Matt Booth. We share such a strong connection in cigar making that ideas come to us naturally. Every time he approaches me with a new project, I get excited because I know it will become something explosive in the market.”
Room101 Namakubi Chingon is packaged in Room101’s signature encapsulations within ten-count piano-finished boxes and will begin shipping on October 2nd.
Chingon (6.5" × 50): SRP per cigar $24.99
The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were peach, brown sugar, leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Pretty good start.
At the first third (21 minutes) the flavors were about like they started. There seems to be a little buttery note with the peach. The cigar is medium bodied and leaning toward medium to full. The finish is peach with a little leather and very good lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 94.
As I moved through the second third (57 minutes) the peach notes were very light. There is still nice brown sugar. There is a lot of black coffee, light leather, and a lot of earthiness. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is black coffee with a little earthiness and very good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 92.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 32 minutes. There was a little resurgence of peach which helped. There was still nice brown sugar and a lot of black coffee and light leather and earthiness. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is peach with very good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 93. I am a little confused as to this cigar. Initially the press release stated the new Chingon was to be a 5 1/2 x 60 Perfecto but for some reason Room101 decided to go a different direction with this cigar. Which is exactly the same size as last year's version and even has 2024 on the band. So, whatever this cigar is it's pretty good.
