Montecristo Espada Conquistador Expands the Legacy of a Celebrated Line

Altadis U.S.A. is launching the Montecristo Espada Conquistador, the latest chapter in the highly rated and celebrated Montecristo Espada family. This new expression continues the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, delivering a refined smoking experience that bridges tradition, expertise, and innovation.

Developed in collaboration with Rafael Nodal and the esteemed Plasencia family, the Montecristo Espada Conquistador is a Nicaraguan puro crafted from rare and exclusive tobaccos from Plasencia’s private estate, featuring the best regions in Nicaragua. The blend was carefully selected to deliver nuanced complexity and a balanced, aromatic medium-full bodied profile that appeals to both seasoned aficionados and new Montecristo enthusiasts alike.

“The Montecristo Espada Conquistador represents our continued commitment to evolving the Espada line,” said Rafael Nodal, VP of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA. “By working with the Plasencia family and utilizing exceptional Nicaraguan tobaccos, we’ve created a cigar that delivers balance, complexity, and refinement while staying true to the heritage of Montecristo.”

The Montecristo Espada Conquistador was specifically designed with a medium-full profile to round out the Montecristo Espada family and sit between the original Espada (medium bodied) and the Espada Oscuro (full bodied). The flavor notes of the Conquistador are highlighted by tones of creamy cedar, a subtle sweetness, light nutty coffee, and a touch of white pepper to tie it all together.

Through advanced fermenting techniques and a meticulous blending process performed by the Plasencia family, the Montecristo Espada Conquistador achieves an even burn, great flavor, consistent draw and a clean finish —all signatures of the Espada line.

The cigars are presented in a striking, hand-crafted 10-count wooden box, featuring a premium suede-like finish in an impactful red hue and adorned with gold metal accents. The iconic Espada sword and branding elements have been refined for a cleaner, more modern aesthetic. Each box is wrapped in a red gift-style exterior that mirrors the top vista of the box, enhancing its shelf presence while maintaining consistency with the original Espada and Espada Oscuro packaging formats.

“The Conquistador was made to bring a new level of elegance and accessibility to the Espada portfolio,” said Gabe Diaz, Brand Manager at Altadis U.S.A. “From the blend to the packaging, every detail was thoughtfully curated to create a cigar that feels both timeless and contemporary—something that resonates with loyal Montecristo smokers while inviting new consumers into the brand.”

The Montecristo Espada Conquistador will be officially unveiled at the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) trade show in New Orleans, La. on April 17, 2026, and will begin shipping to premium cigar retailers in June.
