Weekend review; May 1st and 2nd, 2010

Beautiful weekend. Sunday was quite hot with highs in the mid-90's! Look out, summer is here!
.
2 more cigars from SC Sit Down 12 were reviewed this weekend. They are:
  • Kristoff Vengeance Series 98
  • Vegas de Santiago Secretos de Maestro H2000 robusto

Kristoff Vengeance Series 98 (6x60)
.
Beautiful reddish brown cigar that is well made. This is my first experience with anything by Kristoff. Here is close-up of the band.

The cigar started off with cinnamon spice with hints of citrus and almonds. It had a good amount of pepper. The finish was fairly long with raw almond notes. After an inch there were significant sweet notes. About this same time the finish transitioned to vanilla notes with pepper. The draw was very good. The finish became quite pleasing at midpoint. There is a creaminess in the vanilla notes. The cigar did not burn very even. It was medium bodied with hints of fullness. The cigar had good flavor and changed several times over the smoke but the burn issues brought down the final score.

Vegas de Santiago Secretos de Maestro H2000 robusto (5x50)
.

Triple capped. Grapefruit citrus spice with nice pepper and notes of black coffee. Slight sweetness. Finish is fairly long with vanilla notes and light citrus. I have previously reviewed this cigar in the original Connecticut wrapper and gave it very high marks. The H2000 wrapper on the cigar reviewed today gives it a fuller body. Here is a close-up of the band:

The cigar was very consistent. Vegas de Santiago makes some very enjoyable cigars. They have Cuban-esque quality to them. I recommend trying them. Plus, they are very affordable. Go to www.vegassantiago.com/shop to order their cigars.

Score: 92
