This is the newest edition from the folks at Torano. This cigar is the collaboration of Charlie Torano, president of Torano Cigars and Felipe Sosa, his master roller.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Maduro
Binder: Habano Ecuador
Filler: Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic
The cigar is very dark and well made. It had a nice density.
After cutting the cap the test draw was effortless. The initial flavors were coffee, bittersweet grapefruit citrus, and a lot of black pepper. It's early so let's see how it changes.
About 3/4 inch in the flavors settled down into semi-sweet grapefruit citrus, cream, and a ton of black pepper. The finish was one of wood and creamy vanilla and lingering black pepper. The ash is quite dense. I would call this cigar medium bodied at this point.
About 1 1/4 inch in the flavors combine to give a sweet caramel flavor. The finish is definitely a cream with some lingering black pepper. It's quite noteworthy how the grapefruit notes started the cigar and then the cream was added and now it's one of caramel. Nice.
At the band the flavors were mostly unchanged with the exception of the addition of smokey oak to the initial spice. You can detect it on the back end of the caramel. The other flavors of coffee and pepper are unchanged. The finish is a sweeter, creamier vanilla with the same lingering black pepper. The cigar continued to burn very evenly.
As the cigar wound down I enjoyed it quite a bit. This is not your typical maduro. The caramel notes made it quite interesting. It ended up medium to full bodied. I'm sure the Torano folks will be featuring this cigar at this year's ICPCR. Look for it on shelves soon.
