Cigar Dojo, the first and largest social cigar app, and Espinosa Premium Cigars, a leader in the craft cigar space, announce ‘Psychedelic Turtle,’ a mind-bending project that tastes as loud as it looks.
Espinosa Premium Cigars, led by one of the most engaging personalities in the world of premium cigars—Erik Espinosa—has never been one to shy away from vibrant smoking experiences—both in flavor and design. Teaming with Cigar Dojo, Espinosa’s creative team—Héctor J. Alfonso Sr. and Erik Espinosa Jr.—have headed back to the blending table of the renowned La Zona factory in Estelí.
And now for something completely different. Turn on the black light, crank up the Pink Floyd, and lose yourself in the awesome flavor of the Psychedelic Turtle. Thank me later.

With the end goal of producing an atypical smoking experience worthy of the project’s colorful name, Psychedelic Turtle took shape through the use of tobaccos from Nicaragua’s northernmost growing regions. High-priming viso and ligero leaves were chosen from both Condega and Jalapa, showcasing a balanced core that is both sweet and spicy. The fillers are then bound in a classic Habano-seed binder and finalized in a unique Brazliian Ballaño wrapper. Psychedelic Turtle arrives in a half-shell-inspired 5″ x 56 robusto grande format that has been box-pressed—simultaneously delivering smokers a pleasing draw and giving due diligence to the cigar’s reptilian namesake.
It’s always a trip collaborating with Cigar Dojo. With our fourth official project, we went all out—perhaps letting our creativity get the best of us!

The cigar is well made with a very colorful band. It has a nice feel in the hand for a 5" cigar.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were very sweet; citrus/cedar combination, lots of brown sugar, cinnamon, sweet cream, nutmeg, and an earthy black coffee. There was a nice amount of black pepper which I rated initially at an 8. With the large amount of sweetness in this cigar the earthy black coffee balances the cigar out.
At the first third (22 minutes) the cigar continued to be very sweet. There are nice sweet caramel notes now. The nutmeg is a creamy nutmeg. The other flavor notes are just as they started. The finish is citrus/cedar, brown sugar, nutmeg, and caramel with very nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is a high grade medium bodied. The cigar is very impressive at this point. I rated the first third at 94.
As I finished the second third (48 minutes) the flavors were consistent but the nutmeg rose slightly taking away some of the extreme sweetness. I no longer had much of the sweet cream notes but there was plenty of sweetness left. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish is unchanged in flavors but it also has a little more nutmeg. The lingering black pepper remains very good. I lowered the second third score to 93.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 6 minutes. It was definitely full bodied. The cigar continued on the same trajectory with a slight loss in overall sweetness but don't think this cigar is not sweet. It's nice and sweet but just slightly lower than the way it started. The pepper is very good on both ends. The finish is unchanged. This is a good, short cigar with some power and plenty of sweetness. With the elevated nutmeg and coffee notes I lowered the final third score to 92.
Overall Score: 93
