Protocol Sir Robert Peel Natural (6 x 52)

Video review HERE.

Cubariqueño Cigar Co. announced the release of the Protocol Sir Robert Peel as a regular production release at the 2019 IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas. The Cigars are offered in a natural & maduro format. The Protocol Sir Robert Peel is produced at Erik Espinosa’s La Zona Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The cigars will be available in a 6 x 52 box press format in boxes of 10. MSRP has been set at $119.50 per box. The Natural blend incorporates an Ecuadorian Rosado wrapper covering Nicaraguan binder and fillers.

The cigar is nice looking and well made. The band is quite decorative. The cigar has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were orange citrus, brown sugar, lots of cinnamon, caramel, cream, nutmeg, and an earthy black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. The cream and caramel notes are substantial and are not lost in the mix of citrus, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

At the first third (24 minutes) I did not have as many cream notes as there were at the outset. There is quite a bit of caramel and brown sugar. The citrus notes are now a cross between citrus and cedar. There is plenty of nutmeg and the cream that still exists combine nicely with the nutmeg making a creamy nutmeg flavor. The finish is sweet and one of caramel and nutmeg with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied leaning toward medium to full. The nice caramel notes give the cigar a "regal" feel. I rated the first third at 94.

In the second third (47 minutes) I had an elevation in the black coffee notes. I still had the citrus/cedar flavor, brown sugar, cinnamon, caramel, creamy nutmeg, and elevated black coffee base. The caramel notes continue to give the cigar a fancy, regal feel. There was a slight decrease in the overall sweetness probably due to the elevated coffee notes. The cigar is very close to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar continues to be very good but with the slight decrease in overall sweetness I lowered the second third score to 93.

The Sir Robert Peel Natural lasted 1 hour 7 minutes. In the final third the citrus/cedar notes greatly decreased. But, the brown sugar, cinnamon, caramel, and nutmeg increased. The black coffee dropped back to a very manageable amount. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is caramel and nutmeg with the majority going to nutmeg. There continues to be nice lingering black pepper. The cigar continued to be very good and the nice caramel notes make it quite enjoyable. I maintained the score of 93 for the final third. These cigars are available HERE and at the time of this write up they are on sale at a very good price point.

Overall Score: 93.33
