Warped Cigars planned line extension to Flor de Valle, the Ghost Orchid, has been renamed Seleccion de Valle. The renaming is due to a trademark issue.
The Selección de Valle is a 6 x 52 line extension to Flor de Valle that features a 109-style cap.
Thr Seleccion de Valle is a 100% Nicaraguan puro made at Aganorsa Leaf’s Tabacos Valle de Jalapa in Nicaragua. The new size is targeted as a regular production offering. The cigar itself will also feature a Cuban-style 109 cap. The cigars are packaged in 20-count boxes. Pricing is set at $12.98 per cigar or $259.60 per box.
The cigar has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the 109 style cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a candy-like orange citrus, like a baby aspirin but tangy, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, quite a bit of nutmeg but it's not intrusive, and a black coffee base. There was black pepper which I rated at 7. This is a very sweet cigar at the outset.
At the first third (35 minutes) the cigar has changed a little. The candy-like orange citrus is not so dominant. It's come back in like to a normal amount. There's quite a bit of an earthy, peppery nutmeg. There was still nice brown sugar and cinnamon. The caramel notes I mentioned at the outset morphed over to honey notes. The black coffee has risen. So, rather than things being subtle the flavors are more in balance. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is nutmeg, cream, and some honey with some lingering black pepper. This cigar is very appealing at this point. The tingly, rough nutmeg in the midst of the flavors is very nice. I rated the first third at 94.
At the second third (1 hour 6 minutes) the nutmeg has started to rise which takes away some of the sweetness. The overall flavors remain the same but the nutmeg is elevated. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. With the rising nutmeg and slightly lowering of the sweetness I lowered the score to 93.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 36 minutes. In the final third the cigar got earthy; the nutmeg rose, earthiness rose, and black coffee rose. It lost a good bit of sweetness from what we had in the second third. The cigar is a high grade medium to full bodied. The finish is very heavy in nutmeg with a little cream and just a touch of brown sugar. The lingering black pepper is pretty good. This cigar is very good but it follows a lot of cigars I've reviewed recently where they start off very nice and tail off. For the final third I rated the cigar at 91.
Overall Score: 92.67
