As a part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebration, Miami Cigar and Company has announced it will bring back its Don Lino Africa line. This time Miami Cigar and Company will partner with AJ Fernandez to handle production of the line.

“Africa was an extremely popular line for us, and it made sense as part of our continued 30th anniversary celebration in 2019 that we bring it back to light. From the blend, to the boxes, store pieces, and presentation Africa was a complete work of art and our goal at the beginning was to see to it that the customer can experience all that once again.” (Jason Wood, Miami Cigar & Company Vice President)

In regards to the partnership with AJ Fernandez, Wood commented, “We also are excited to announce that Africa’s production will be handled by Tabacalera AJ Fernandez. AJ and Nestor have known each other for years, and AJ’s commitment to artistry in tobacco blending is known throughout the industry. We are thrilled to be able to announce this partnership and quickly fell in love with his interpretation of Don Lino Africa. It is an exotic, complex blend that captures the original spirit of the line perfectly.”

Fernandez has revamped the blend and it now features an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 wrapper, an African Cameroon binder, and a combination of Piloto Dominicano, Ometepe, Jalapa, and Estelí fillers.

The cigar has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were somewhat dry cedar, brown sugar, cinnamon, caramel, nutmeg, and earthy black coffee. There was nice black pepper initially rated at 8. A nice sweet start.

At the first third (22 minutes) the cigar continues to be very sweet. You really get the caramel and brown sugar in abundance. There are still nice cedar and cinnamon notes also. The nutmeg and black coffee are in a nice percentage. The finish is one of mostly nutmeg and a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is a high grade medium bodied. I rated the first third at 94.

At the second third (59 minutes) there was an elevation of the nutmeg and black coffee. The same flavor notes are in play but there was some loss of sweeter notes. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is medium to full bodied. Still a nice cigar but with the loss of sweetness I rated the second third at 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 20 minutes. The final third had the same flavor percentages with a little more elevation in coffee and nutmeg notes. The finish is basically unchanged and the cigar is still medium to full bodied. I lowered the final third score to 91. This is not a typical AJ tasting cigar but still very nice. You can purchase these cigars and all the other sizes HERE.

Overall Score: 92.33
