Diamond Crown MAXIMUS No. 4 (6 x 50)

Video review HERE.

Stanford Newman wanted to create a hearty complement to the wildly successful Diamond Crown line. To accomplish this, he enlisted the help of two legendary cigar families, the Fuentes and Olivas. After years of collaboration, for the company’s 110th anniversary, J.C. Newman launched a full-flavored, bold cigar that could only be created by these three cigar masterminds, the Diamond Crown MAXIMUS.

Exclusively hand rolled in the Dominican Republic with Carlito Fuente’s very best master rollers, the long filler in MAXIMUS is a secret blend of specially aged Dominican filler tobaccos. The MAXIMUS wrap-per is a special Ecuadorian tobacco, exclusively grown on the El Bajo region of the Oliva’s Ecuador planta-tion. El Bajo sits in a pristine valley where the mountain’s natural minerals and nutrients, washed down by centuries of rain, have made the soil exceptionally rich; perfect for growing tobacco.

The unique and remarkably smooth, full-bodied flavor of the Diamond Crown MAXIMUS is unparalleled. Only the richest, hardiest and darkest tobacco from the top priming ‘corona’ of the plant is used in Diamond Crown MAXIMUS. Because of the tobacco’s weight, Carlos Fuente is able to re-bulk and re-ferment the tobacco, further contributing to its full flavor and dark color.

It's hard to argue that the Diamond Crown Maximus band is one of the most beautiful on the market. The cigar is quite dark and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were light cedar and brown sugar, dark chocolate with fudge qualities, and black coffee. The dark chocolate has a little sweetness. There was black pepper rated at 7. This is a dark noted cigar with some sweetness from light brown sugar and dark chocolate.

At the first third (31 minutes) some of the fudge-like qualities have diminished. But the cedar notes have come out. There is much more cedar and brown sugar. There is still plenty of dark chocolate that is now unsweetened and plenty of black coffee. The black pepper is still pretty good. I would call the cigar medium bodied at this point. The finish is chocolate with dry cedar and an average amount of black pepper. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour) I had light cedar, light brown sugar, unsweetened dark chocolate, and black coffee. The cigar has decreased in it's sweeter notes. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is very dark noted with minimum sweetness. The black pepper seems to be moving up. I rated the cigar 91 in the second third.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 21 minutes. In the final third some of the fudge-like qualities returned with some sweetness. The cedar is more of a dry variety and has nice brown sugar attached, which also improved. The black pepper has definitely moved up. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar bounced back somewhat. I rated the final third 92. Good dark noted cigar. You can purchase these cigars HERE.
