Viaje Summerfest 2020 (6 x 54)

Video review HERE.

This year’s version of the Viaje Summerfest is being rolled at the Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua and will be offered in boxes of 30.

The last time Summerfest was released, in 2018, it was a 6 x 54 toro with a brushed foot, though there have been various sizes over the years. This will be the sixth year Viaje has released Summerfest following releases in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018.

Not much else is known about the cigar. Viaje is quite secretive about their blends.

The cigar has a brushed foot and has a very dense feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were a cedar/citrus, a lot of brown sugar, touch of cinnamon, a dry pasty nutmeg, light leather, and an average black coffee base. There was nice black pepper rated at 7 1/2.

Just after you burn past the brushed foot you encounter the wrapper which adds a lot more leather notes.

At the first third (47 minutes) I still had the cedar/citrus but there is more cedar now. There were the same flavor notes as before. The nutmeg now has a rough texture and that could be coming from the leather influence. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish has a hint of citrus, a little brown sugar, leather, and nutmeg with an average amount of lingering black pepper. The flavors on the front end are now starting to congeal into one flavor ball. The leather and nutmeg are getting intertwined with the sweeter flavors. The black coffee is holding a low level base. The flavor mix is very appealing. I rated the first third 94.

Moving through the second third (1 hour 27 minutes) the nutmeg and leather started to creep up a little more. But, the cigar is still very enjoyable. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar changed a bit but it did not hurt it too much. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 53 minutes. The cigar stayed very much like it was in the second third. The sweeter notes made a slight move up but it did not reach the level of the first third. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The burn time is fantastic. This is a very enjoyable cigar. I rated the final third 93.

Overall Score: 93.33
