Jas Sum Kral (JSK) Cigars has let its opinion of FDA regulations known in a product release. Last month the company has announced the soft-launch of its JSK F**k the FDA Cigar.
Much of the blend details have not been disclosed – other than the company has said the cigar features a Mexican San Andres wrapper and “Air Cured Tobacco”. The cigar itself is a 6 x 52 Toro. It will be packaged in ten-count bundles selling for $99.99.
The bundles are wrapped in paper featuring documentation from the FDA’s Deeming Rule.
The cigar initially was soft launched at owner Riste Ristevski’s Ristefari event held in March. The cigar is now heading to five select retailers. The company says in one month the cigars will go to other retailers who carry the core JSK lines. Later this year, the cigar will head to the international markets.
The following are the five select retailers receiving the initial allocation:
Golden Leaf Cigar (Hobart, Indiana)
Omerta Cigar Lounge (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma)
Rudy’s Cigar Lounge (Fort Wayne, Indiana)
Stateline Cigar Lounge (Newark, Delaware) (I have dealt with Stateline several times)
Tobacco Land (Munster, Indiana)
The cigar is very dark and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, brown sugar, a little chocolate, a lot of a vegetable type nutmeg, and a lot of black coffee. There was nice black pepper rated at 7 1/2. The nutmeg is so much of a vegetable type flavor it reminds me of avocados. This is a very dark cigar but it has nice sweetness. Can a cigar taste angry?
At just 12 minutes in the flavors have settled down nicely. There is now a cedar/citrus combination and the brown sugar is nice. There are still light chocolate notes and the vegetable nutmeg. Of course, there is a nice black coffee base. All the flavors are mixing very well together.
At the first third (38 minutes) the cigar is in line with the previous description. The flavors are mixing well and nothing really stands out. The citrus/cedar notes have a little orange peel now. The black pepper remains very good. I would say it's not quite as good as the Tyrannical Buc that I reviewed yesterday but it's close. The finish is coffee, chocolate, and nutmeg with a nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied but it's leaning heavily toward medium to full. The cigar is very good. I rated the first third 93.
Moving through the second third (1 hour) the cigar is rocking along just about like it has been. The only thing different is I am getting flashes of graham cracker. Not a lot, but faint hints. I still had the citrus/cedar, brown sugar, light chocolate which is now dark chocolate, vegetable type nutmeg, and black coffee. I thought the cigar would rocket to full bodied at this point but it's still only around medium to full. The finish now has whiffs of the graham cracker, chocolate, and nutmeg. The lingering black pepper remains very good. I maintained the score of 93 for the second third.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 21 minutes. This has been a fairly consistent cigar. There were not many changes. There was the addition of orange peel early on and then some graham cracker notes later but that's about it. Even the strength maintained stable at medium to full. In the final third I still had the flashes of graham cracker. The chocolate notes tasted a little more like sweet chocolate in the final third. The black pepper remained very good on both ends. The finish is unchanged. With not much changing I maintained the score of 93 for the final third. This is a good cigar. Check with the shops listed above and pick up a few.
Overall Score: 93
