Cavalier Genève has announced it has shipped the third installment of its annual limited edition series, the Cavalier Genève LE 2020.
The company isn’t disclosing details about the blend, but the cigar itself is different for a few reasons. First up, the cigar is a box-pressed 6 x 54 Toro as opposed to the 4 3/4 x 58 size used on the LE 2018 and LE 2019 editions. Second, the cigar itself is a barber-pole showcasing a dark and light wrapper.
The LE2020 cigars are presented in ten-count boxes.
It' hard to see the black horse and rider on the dark blue band. The cigar has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were chocolate, cream, orange peel, nutmeg, light brown sugar, light black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. After having several of these previously I am expecting some changes.
At the first third (27 minutes) there were still nice chocolate notes but the cream is gone. The nutmeg is quite creamy so that will have to suffice as any creamy flavor. The black coffee is somewhat earthy and elevated. There is also some brown sugar to help with sweetness. Overall the cigar is rather dark. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. The finish is chocolate and nutmeg with modest lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 90.
Moving through the second third (59 minutes) things started to pick up. The chocolate notes improved. There are cedar notes developing. There is light brown sugar and plenty of nutmeg. And, there remains plenty of black coffee. The cigar is a low grade medium to full bodied. The finish is chocolate, nutmeg, and black coffee with improved lingering black pepper. The cigar made some nice improvements. With the 2 bands removed you can see the gold diamond that is on all Cavalier cigars. I rated the second third 92.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. In the final third the cigar dropped back just a bit. The brown sugar notes decreased. The chocolate notes are still quite nice. Everything else about the cigar is about the same. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. You can see the scorched gold leaf in the picture below. I rated the final third 91.
