Araposa Negra by BLTC for Fox Cigar Bar (5 1/2 x 54 Box Pressed)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

Black Label Trading Company (BLTC) has announced the release of Araposa, an exclusive  to Fox Cigar Bar in Arizona.

“Araposa is dark, rich and extremely well balanced. This cigar has bold flavors and just the right amount of spice on the retro hale. The flavors of black cherry, anise and bitter cocoa let you know this is a Black Label cigar. The Nicaraguan fillers are topped with an Ecuadorian Habano binder and wrapped in both Mexican San Andrés and Ecuador Corojo,” commented James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

Araposa is available in one size – a 5 1/2 x 54 box-pressed. The cigars are sold in ten-count bundles.

The cigar is nice looking and reminiscent of The Home that James Brown made for Dissident Cigars. The wrapper has the same barber pole look. The cigar has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were dry cedar, brown sugar, citrus peel, nutmeg, and black coffee. The combination of citrus peel, brown sugar, and nutmeg make a sort of thick, sweet, fermented flavor. There was black pepper initially at 7 to 7 1/2. Nice dark, sweet start.

At the first third (25 minutes) caramel entered the flavor mix adding more sweetness. The cedar has taken a backseat to the caramel and brown sugar. The citrus peel is still there and it seems to have increased. The same could be said about the black coffee. The black pepper has increased to a solid 7 1/2. The finish is nutmeg with the slightest amount of caramel with average/nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar is good but I don't think the flavors are quite as bold as some other of James' cigars. But, the flavors are very nice. I rated the first third 93.

Moving through the second third (47 minutes) not much has changed. The front end flavors now have a little tangy notes, perhaps from some citrus influence. The black pepper has continued to increase and is now around 8. The finish is straight nutmeg with improved lingering black pepper. Not enough has changed to change the score so I held 93 for the second third.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 4 minutes. There was a little change in the final third. The black coffee and nutmeg had very earthy notes. They surround the sweeter flavors and hold them back. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The black pepper is still good on both ends. The uptick in earthiness occurred late in the cigar so it's not that big of a deal. I rated the final third 91. For a house cigar/shop exclusive this is a very good cigar. Contact Fox Cigars to purchase them.

Overall Score: 92.33
