The three new sizes of Luciano The Dreamer from ACE Prime has begun arriving on store shelves.
The company announced them in mid-November and showed them off at the 2022 Tobacco Plus Expo in late January. The new sizes were announced alongside plans for a wine being released under The Dreamer name and which is being produced by Spanish winemaker Mas Igneus, in which Luciano Meirelles is a partner. The wine debuted in Europe in mid-February and will be arriving in the U.S. in mid-June, Meirelles told halfwheel.
After debuting in a 7 1/2 x 38 lancero vitola in August 2020, Luciano The Dreamer now has some thicker vitola options:
Luciano The Dreamer Hermoso No. 4 (5 x 48) — $12 (Box of 15, $180)
Luciano The Dreamer Toro de Lux (6 7/8 x 50) — $12.50 (Box of 15, $187.50) REVIEWED TODAY
Luciano The Dreamer Belicoso (5 1/2 x 52) — $12.95 (Box of 15, $194.25)
A fifth size, a 6 1/2 x 38 short lancero, was added in late 2021 as an exclusive release for CigarClub.com.
The Luciano The Dreamer blend uses an Ecuadorian habano corojo 99 wrapper and a Nicaraguan binder, with the fillers coming from Nicaragua and Peru, and is produced at Tabacalera Pichardo in Nicaragua. It is named for Luciano Meirelles, a co-founder of ACE Prime as well as its master blender and president.
The cigar is very well made. The wrapper is very smooth and medium brown in color. The cigar has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, citrus peel, toffee, cinnamon, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7. A pretty good start.
At the first third (27 minutes) I had the same flavor notes I started with but there is now also nutmeg. The citrus and toffee is nice and sweet. The citrus peel does not hurt the cigar. It's just an additional flavor. The finish is toffee and leather with average lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The flavors are very nice at this point. I rated the first third 93.
Moving through the second third (1 hour 4 minutes) I had some big changes. The citrus and citrus peel are gone. The toffee is still there and the brown sugar that goes along with it. The nutmeg is reduced and the leather is very manageable; somewhat reduced. But, there is now black coffee and it came on with a vengeance. The finish is toffee and leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is still medium bodied. It's a mystery where the citrus and citrus peel went but I hope they return. The cigar is like a whole different cigar. I rated the second third 90.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 28 minutes. A good burn time. The citrus notes did not return. But I now had nice cinnamon notes and the toffee and brown sugar are somewhat elevated. There is still leather and nutmeg. And the black coffee settled down into a manageable amount. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is toffee and light leather with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar made some improvement so I raised the score to 91. This is a pretty good cigar that makes a major change in the second third but overall it's pretty good.
