Viaje Summerfest 2022 (6 1/2 x 54 Toro Extra)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

The Viaje Summerfest line dates back to 2010 and was one of the company’s earliest releases. While it has been several years since the company formally confirmed the blend details, earlier versions have been Nicaraguan puros with a corojo 99 wrapper, while the cigars have featured uncovered feet, a design style where the wrapper does not go all the way to the end of the cigar, thus leaving some of the binder and filler exposed. This give the smoker to experience those two components of the blend before the wrapper starts burning and contributing to the profile.

This year’s release is a 6 1/2 x 54 toro extra that has an MSRP of $11 per cigar.

The cigar is well made and has an unfinished foot.

It also has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. Since it's just filler and binder the initial flavors are a little different. They were a tangy, sweet orange citrus, brown sugar, and some citrus peel. Once I was through the unfinished foot and got to the wrapper the extra note was leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. All in all a good start.

At the first third (34 minutes) the notes were the same and they are evenly split; nice, sweet and tangy orange citrus with brown sugar, and a mix of citrus peel and leather. Pretty much evenly split. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is very good. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 19 minutes) the notes were about the same but the percentages have shifted. There is more leather than sweet notes but not drastically. The finish is leather and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. There were still nice citrus and brown sugar notes but the scale is tilted toward the leather. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted an impressive 1 hour 52 minutes. A very good burn time. In the final third the cigar made some nice improvements. There's a lot of nice, sweet orange citrus and brown sugar. There's even cinnamon in the mix. The leather has toned down and there's black coffee at the base. There's light nutmeg between the sweet notes and dark notes but you won't notice it much. The finish is citrus and leather with very good lingering black pepper. The black pepper on the front end is an 8, at least. The cigar made some nice improvements. I rated the final third 93. A very nice offering from Viaje.

Overall Score: 92.67
