Viaje Piña Nohea (5 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

The Viaje Piña, which has been off the market since 2017 has returned.

The line’s blend uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan filler, the same as the original release, and it is once again made by Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic. It is being offered in the same two vitolas as before:

Viaje Piña Makana (6 x 52) — $11 (Box of 24, $264)

Viaje Piña Nohea (5 x 54) — $10.83 (Box of 24, $259.92) REVIEWED TODAY

The line returns wearing new bands that feature a pineapple on them, as opposed to the plain white bands used for the original release, as it had been part of the company’s White Label Project. The release is limited to 350 boxes of each size.

The cigar is very dark and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a sweet orange citrus, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and dark chocolate. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. A nice dark and sweet start.

At the first third (27 minutes) there was a lot more nutmeg and it's thick and chewy. There were still nice orange citrus, brown sugar, and light cinnamon notes, light citrus peel, as well as dark chocolate. The thick nutmeg is right in the middle of the sweet and dark notes. The finish is a lot of dark chocolate with some light brown sugar and good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied but seems to be moving up. The large amount of nutmeg detracts some for me. I rated the first third 93. It's still good but there's quite a bit of nutmeg.

Moving through the second third (53 minutes) the nutmeg toned down but the dark chocolate went way up and brought black coffee with it. There were still nice orange citrus, brown sugar, and cinnamon notes but they had to give way to the uptick in dark chocolate and black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is dark chocolate, nutmeg, and brown sugar with very good lingering black pepper. The elevated dark chocolate and black coffee threw the cigar a little out of balance so I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. The dark chocolate and black coffee pulled back allowing the sweeter notes to shine more. The nutmeg went back to it's rather thick, chewy status. So, basically the cigar went back to the way it was in the first third. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish is dark chocolate, a little brown sugar, and nutmeg with very good lingering black pepper. I went back to 93 for the final third. Pretty good dark noted cigar with nice sweetness.

Overall Score: 92.67
