E.P. Carrillo’s newest line, Allegiance, has shipped to stores.
The new line will be distinctive on store shelves due to its green boxes and bands, while the blend of the cigar features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler. It is available in four sizes:
Perez-Carrillo Allegiance Sidekick (5 x 50) — $12 (Box of 20, $240)
Perez-Carrillo Allegiance Confidant (6 x 52) — $13.10 (Box of 20, $262) REVIEWED TODAY
Perez-Carrillo Allegiance Wingman Corona (6 7/8 x 54) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)
Perez-Carrillo Allegiance Chaperone (6 1/4 x 58) — $14 (Box of 20, $280)
All four sizes are offered in 20-count boxes and are produced for E.P. Carrillo by Oliva Cigar Co. at its TABOLISA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
As part of the launch, the inside lids of 50 boxes have been autographed by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr., with the people finding the autographed boxes winning an ashtray from E.P. Carrillo.
The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a lemony citrus, brown sugar, a little nutmeg, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Not a bad start. The cigar has a light feel in flavors.
At the first third (25 minutes) the burn is pretty even. I had the same flavor notes as the cigar started. The black pepper really comes across for 7 1/2. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is a little of the lemony citrus and leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is nice and sweet. I rated the first third 94.
Moving through the second third (51 minutes) the cigar has gotten very earthy. The leather has not increased but there is now black coffee. The lemony citrus is rather light. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish has a little aspect of the lemony citrus/brown sugar combination and leather with good lingering black pepper. The earthiness hurt the cigar's enjoyment. I rated the second third 91.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 13 minutes. Some of the earthiness decreased. The lemony citrus came out a little more. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar made a modest improvement. I rated the final third 92. This is a pretty good cigar but the earthiness in the middle section hurt it.
