The Mexican Revolution would have been impossible without the effort and sacrifice of the Soldaderas. These brave female warriors persevered and refused to be defeated despite their constant condemnation as a result of the ideologies of the time. The Soldaderas line is dedicated to those brave female soldiers, who fought for justice and freedom.
The Soldaderas line consist of:
Sampetrina Robusto; 5 x 50
La Coronela Majestuosos 1966; 5 1/2 x 58
Teniente Angela Toro; 6 x 52
Today we take a look at the Teniente Angela Toro.
Ángela Jiménez, known as "Teniente Angela" (Lieutenant Ángela) was a soldier, spy, explosives expert, flag bearer and sometimes a cook. Originally from Oaxaca, México, she fought in the Revolution with Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata's guerrillas in the North and Center of the country.
She never let her gender define her strength, which is why her fearlessness was so remarkable and inspiring. She put aside her skirts and fought with trousers, like any other Guerillero”. After the war, she continued to fight for the rights of Chicanos and was never silent in the face of injustice.
Much like "Teniente Angela", we want to continue fighting for those revolutionary principles which is why we have named a cigar after her in order to always remember her efforts for justice.
In this tobacco, you will find a rich combination of flavors and aromas ranging from wood, cocoa seeds, nuts, earth and black pepper. The ideal pairing for this cigar is Stout beer.
Origin: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: México / Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic / Nicaragua
The cigar is well made and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good with a touch of firmness. The initial flavors at light up were a peach/apple flavor, brown sugar, earthiness, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 8. Pretty good start.
At the first third (28 minutes) I still had the peach/apple combination but there seems to be a little more apple, brown sugar, earthiness, light leather, and black coffee. The finish is leather with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is full bodied. The flavors work well together. I rated the first third 94.
Moving through the second third (1 hour) the cigar had a nice sweetness of apple/cedar but there is a lot more earthiness with the black coffee. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is leather with very good lingering black pepper. The earthiness detracts a little. The cigar is still good but I rated the second third 92.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 26 minutes. In this third I had more of a peach/citrus note with brown sugar and quite a bit of earthiness with light black coffee. The cigar is still full bodied. The finish is leather with a little peach and very good lingering black pepper. The black pepper has been very good in this cigar. The cigar improved a little. I rated the final third 93. Be on the lookout for this one. It's pretty good.
