Espinosa Premium Cigars has announced two new limited releases under its 601 brand, the 601 Orange and 601 Yellow. A total of five-hundred ten-count cardboard boxes were made of each.
The 601 Orange is a Brazilian Cubra Rosado wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder. The 601 Orange is a round 6 x 52 Toro. It is described as medium to medium plus in both flavor and strength.
“We are always trying to make something different for our fans. They are the ones that have made us successful and here is another opportunity to do something special for them,” commented Erik Espinosa in a press release.
The 601 Orange has a MSRP for $10.00 (with a box of ten cigars for $100) and were blended by Espinosa Premium Cigars, and hand-rolled at the La Zona Factory in EstelĂ, Nicaragua.
Wrapper: Brazilian Cubra Rosado
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: La Zona S.A.
Toro: 6 x 52
The cigar is nicely made and has a nice feel in the hand.
The initial flavors at light up were a combination of somewhat an orange citrus and pear, brown sugar, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2.
At the first third (24 minutes) I had light notes of pear, fairly light brown sugar, earthy leather, and black coffee. The finish had light hints of pear and leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar is not grabbing me at this point. The sweet notes from the light up to now are fading. There are quite a bit of lower level notes. I rated the first third 89.
Moving through the second third (51 minutes) the cigar is slipping away. Now I had a quick flash of pear quickly followed by a bitter citrus peel, earthy leather, and black coffee. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. I rated the second third 85.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. In the final third I had earthy leather and black coffee with hints of bitter citrus peel. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar quickly went away from me. And I'm surprised that this cigar was not better. I had high hopes for a new addition to the 601 line. I rated the final third 80.
