Espinosa Premium Cigars has announced two new limited releases under its 601 brand, the 601 Orange and 601 Yellow. A total of five-hundred ten-count cardboard boxes were made of each.

The 601 Yellow is a Mexican San Andres wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder. The 601 Yellow is also a round 6 x 52 Toro. It is described as medium plus to full in both flavor and strength.

“We are always trying to make something different for our fans. They are the ones that have made us successful and here is another opportunity to do something special for them,” commented Erik Espinosa in a press release.

The 601 Yellow has a MSRP for $10.00 (with a box of ten cigars for $100) and were blended by Espinosa Premium Cigars, and hand-rolled at the La Zona Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The cigar is nicely made and has a nice feel in the hand.

The initial flavors at light up were lemon, brown sugar, earthiness, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. There is some decent sweetness in the lemon and brown sugar.

At the first third (32 minutes) it is apparent this cigar is burning slower than the Orange. The lemony citrus is still there but it's not as sweet. It has a little lemon peel flavor with some bitterness. The earthiness has increased and there's quite a bit of leather. The finish is leather with average lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar is close to being ok but the bitterness is holding it back. I rated the first third 88.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 8 minutes) the cigar slightly improved. Some of the bitterness went away. The cigar is not overly sweet but it has sweetness. The lemon and brown sugar make a nice combination. The earthiness and leather is not as prominent. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the second third 90.

The cigar lasted an impressive 1 hour 44 minutes. A much longer burn time than the Orange. The cigar did not hold the nice notes found in the second third. There are now faint notes of lemon and brown sugar with much increased earthiness and leather. The earthiness is higher now than at any point. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 86. Of the two this is a better cigar than the Orange but neither are great.

Overall Score: 88
