Dapper HolySmoke Genesis (6 1/2 x 52 box-pressed figurado)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

This is a project done in collaboration with the HolySmoke Bible Club out of Fresno, California. HolySmoke Genesis is a cigar that is shipping nationwide to U.S. retailers.

According to Ian Reith of Dapper Cigar Company, this is a project that has been in the works for nearly three years. Reith said at first he was hesitant to take on the project for HolySmoke, but after seeing their cause and commitment to not cutting any corners in any aspect of production, he realized it was impossible to turn the project down.

HolySmoke Genesis comes in one size – a 6 1/2 x 52 box-pressed figurado. This is the first time Dapper has released a cigar in that format. Blend-wise, the cigar consists of a Mexican San Andres wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The cigars are presented in 12-count boxes.

The cigar is absolutely beautiful and very well made.

The cigar is very well made and is a delight to see. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were apricot/citrus, a little brown sugar, bakers chocolate, and a very light black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. A little low key start.

At the first third (25 minutes) the cigar is burning very evenly. There's a little more sweetness at this point. There's still apricot with brown sugar. No longer any citrus notes. And there's still plenty of baker's chocolate with light black coffee. The finish is bakers chocolate with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The bakers chocolate is not a great flavor to me but the sweet notes are trying to keep up. I rated the first third 92.

Moving through the second third (57 minutes) the cigar continues to burn evenly. The cigar made a slight improvement due to the elevation of black coffee. Normally this would not be a big deal but it helped tone down the bakers chocolate notes. The apricot and brown sugar actually came through a little better with the increased black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 21 minutes. The cigar did not change in the final third. There were still nice apricot and brown sugar notes, bakers chocolate, and black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied and the finish is unchanged. The cigar burned evenly the whole time. The cigar improved as it went along. I would like the sweet notes to be more prominent but it was blended this way for the Club. I held the score of 93. This is an absolutely beautiful cigar and worth a try. I purchased mine at Smallbatchcigar.com and don't forget to use code Tinytim for 10% off.

Overall Score: 92.67
