The newest Fosforo blend will be one that comes from a different factory than the rest of the brand’s cigars to date.
At the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, Fosforo released the Fosforo Limitada, a 5 1/2 x 54 robusto extra. Blend-wise, it uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua. Unlike the rest of the cigars in the Fosforo portfolio, which have been made by Garmendia Cigars Co., this release was rolled at Tabacalera Segovias de Estelí.
Perhaps most notably, the company says these cigars were rolled more than 18 months ago.
The MSRP is set at $9.95 per cigar and production is limited to 750 bundles of 20 cigars
The cigar is very dark and has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were tangy apricot, a little brown sugar and a lot of dark chocolate. There was black pepper rated at 7. A dark start but not bad.
At the first third (26 minutes) the flavor percentages have changed. The apricot and brown sugar have somewhat decreased and the dark chocolate has increased. There's also a little black coffee mixed in with the dark chocolate. The cigar has gotten very dark and lost some of it's sweetness. The finish is apricot and a touch of dark chocolate with fairly good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The cigar is a little darker than it is sweeter. I rated the first third 92.
As I moved through the second third (55 minutes) the cigar improved somewhat. The apricot and brown sugar increased. The dark chocolate pulled back a touch and it's rather chewy. There's still a little black coffee mixed in the dark chocolate.. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is apricot and dark chocolate with good to very good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 94.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 28 minutes. The final third had some major changes. There is now a tremendous amount of dark chocolate and black coffee with hints of apricot and light brown sugar. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is dark chocolate and black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. This cigar has gone through some rather major changes from third to third. I rated the final third 90. You can purchase these cigars at smallbatchcigar.com and use code tinytim for 10% off.
