Viaje Exclusivo Double Edged Sword (5 x 52 Perfecto)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

Viaje has announced that its Exclusivo and Exclusivo Leaded lines will be returning to store shelves later this month, and one of the two sizes will be the sought-after Double Edged Sword, a 5 x 52 perfecto.

Both blends are Nicaraguan puros, though the Exclusivo Leaded uses medio tiempo in its blend, which results in a stronger, fuller flavor, according to the company. The cigars are produced by Raíces Cubanas in Danlí, Honduras.

The two blends will also be released in a 6 x 5o toro. All of the cigars have received an extra six months of aging in their boxes prior to the release, the company wrote in social media posts. Pricing and production numbers have not yet been disclosed, with a company representative declining to provide them to halfwheel. Previous releases have come in boxes of 25 cigars.

Today we look at the Viaje Exclusivo.

The cigar is a nice looking perfecto and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good considering the small area at the foot. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, lemon, brown sugar, and earthy leather. There was black pepper rated at 7.

At the first third (20 minutes) the cigar had a lot of earthiness, leather, and black coffee. The sweet notes are mixing pretty well. There is less lemon and more cedar with a nice amount of brown sugar. There are also roasted almonds in the mix. The cigar is not wowing me but it's not that bad. I rated the first third 91.

As I moved through the second third (41 minutes) the earthiness, leather, and black coffee have greatly increased. The sweet notes are a dry cedar and brown sugar. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The finish is leather and black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. There are way more darker/lower level notes than sweet notes at this point. I rated the second third 87.

The cigar lasted 57 minutes. It improved a little. There are now more sweet notes of cedar and brown sugar and there are still plenty of earthy leather and black coffee notes. There are more black coffee than leather notes. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the final third 89.

Overall Score: 89
