Viaje has announced that its Exclusivo and Exclusivo Leaded lines will be returning to store shelves later this month, and one of the two sizes will be the sought-after Double Edged Sword, a 5 x 52 perfecto.
Both blends are Nicaraguan puros, though the Exclusivo Leaded uses medio tiempo in its blend, which results in a stronger, fuller flavor, according to the company. The cigars are produced by Raíces Cubanas in Danlí, Honduras.
The two blends will also be released in a 6 x 5o toro. All of the cigars have received an extra six months of aging in their boxes prior to the release, the company wrote in social media posts. Pricing and production numbers have not yet been disclosed, with a company representative declining to provide them to halfwheel. Previous releases have come in boxes of 25 cigars.
Today we look at the Viaje Exclusivo Leaded.
The cigar is a nice looking perfecto ahd has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good considering the small foot. The initial flavors at light up were apricot, brown sugar, leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 to 7 1/2. Pretty good start.
At the first third (22 minutes) The apricot and brown sugar notes are nice. There's a semi wine-like flavor to those. I also had roasted pecans. There was earthiness, leather and black coffee at the base. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is apricot with leather and good lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 92.
As I moved through the second third (44 minutes) not much has changed. The apricot has a little citrus influence, a little like citrus peel. The other notes are still in play; brown sugar, roasted pecans, earthiness, leather, and black coffee. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I held the score of 92.
The cigar lasted 1 hour. The earthiness increased a little but I could still get nice sweet notes. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is unchanged. All the notes are in play but you can tell the cigar had an increase in earthiness. I lowered the score to 91. The earthiness did not hurt it much. Of the two, this is the better cigar between the regular version of the Exclusivo and the Leaded. While I would not call this a great cigar it's definitely better than the regular version.
