HVC Cigars has added the HVC Hot Cake Golden Line to its portfolio. Instead of the original Hot Cake’s Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan tobaccos, the Hot Cake Golden Line uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, Nicaragua.
It will be made at the company’s Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. de Reinier Lorenzo factory in Estelí, offered in four regular production sizes:
HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Corona Gorda (5 5/8 x 46) — $8.30 (Box of 25, $207.50) REVIEWED TODAY

HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Laguito No.5 (6 x 54) — $10 (Box of 25, $250)
HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Gran Cañon (6 x 60) — $11.40 (Box of 25, $285)
“HVC Hot Cake Golden Line offers a mild to medium flavor profile perfect for those who appreciate a well–balanced smoke,” said the company in a press release. “The flavors are smooth and rich, with cedar, leather and cocoa notes that are sure to delight your senses.”
The cigar is golden brown and nicely made. It has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a lemony pear, brown sugar, leather, and a huge amount of earthiness. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. A very earthy start.
At the first third (25 minutes) there was a light lemony citrus, light brown sugar, heavy earthiness, and leather. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The extreme earthiness is not appealing. I rated the first third 88.
As I moved through the second third (45 minutes) the cigar continued to get more earthy. There are now hints of lemon, light hints of brown sugar, heavy earth, and leather. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. More earthiness equals less enjoyment for me. I rated the second third 84.
The cigar lasted 1 hour. If you stretch your mind you can get hints of brown sugar but pretty much you'll notice the extreme earthiness and leather. The cigar is still medium bodied. The black pepper is pretty good. The finish is unchanged. I don't get this cigar. I thought it would be a slightly milder version of the original but it's nothing like the original. It's all about the earth. It doesn't have much that appeals to me. I rated the final third 80.
