Tatuaje is giving its 10th Anniversary line a new limited edition Capa Especial variation, meaning it uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, while the binders and filler still come from Nicaragua.

The Tatuaje 10th Anniversary Capa Especial is being offered in two sizes:

Tatuaje 10th Anniversary Capa Especial Belle Encre (5 3/4 x 48) — $12 (Box of 20, $240) REVIEWED TODAY

Tatuaje 10th Anniversary Capa Especial Bon Chasseur (5 3/8 x 52) — $12 (Box of 20, $240)

Fans of the brand will recognize that these are the same two sizes and prices that Tatuaje released for the Tatuaje 10th Anniversary Tuxtla that was released in August 2023, as well as the same two sizes released when the Tatuaje 10th Anniversary debuted in 2013 as part of the company’s 10th anniversary. That original blend featured an Ecuadorian habano wrapper. The cigars are produced at My Father Cigars S.A. in EstelĂ, Nicaragua, with production limited to 3,000 boxes of 20 cigars for each vitola.

The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were lime, brown sugar, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Not a bad start but lime isn't the greatest of flavors.

At the first third (23 minutes) I had the same basic flavors and now there are roasted nuts in the mix. The leather is quite heavy. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. I'm not a big fan of heavy leather cigars and you combine that with lime and you don't get the greatest of flavors. I rated the first third 91.

As I moved through the second third (42 minutes) the lime is now mixing with cedar which helps tone down the sharpness. The brown sugar is mixing well with those flavors. There are still plenty of leather and roasted nut flavors but the sweet notes rose a little. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is heavy leather with very good lingering black pepper. For me, the cigar improved a little. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 5 minutes. In the final third the cigar got the best for me. The sweetness came out. There were light lime notes, lots of cedar and brown sugar, toffee, and less leather and roasted nuts. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I liked the final third better than any other. I rated the final third 93. This isn't a bad cigar but it's a little heavy on the leather for the most part.

Overall Score: 92
