Protocol Cigars has announced the long-awaited fourth installment to its Lawman Series, Protocol Phoebe Couzins.

Keeping with the tradition of the three prior installments, there are both Natural and Maduro offerings for Protocol Phoebe Couzins.

The Lawman Series pays homage to prominent figures in law enforcement history. The series is meant to deliver a premium offering in terms of blend and packaging.

Phoebe Couzins was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She became the first woman in United States history to graduate from a law school. Later, she would become one of the first female lawyers in the United States. In 1887, Phoebe Couzins became the first female U.S. Marshal in the country. Couzins was also a women’s rights activist; she was a member of the St. Louis Woman Suffrage Association, where she drew attention as a public speaker. Protocol honors women in law and law enforcement pioneer Couzins with this cigar during Women’s History Month.

The Phoebe Couzins Natural features an Ecuadorian Sumatra Rosado wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and all Nicaraguan fillers.

AJ Fernandez produces the cigars at the San Lotano Factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua. As with previous Lawman Series releases, the cigars are 6 x 52 box-pressed cigars in ten-count boxes. Each cigar is priced at $12.55 SRP.

“I am excited to see these cigars finally get released, I love the way both of these blends came together and are a nice addition to the Lawmen Series,” added Hector Alfonso Sr., Espinosa’s Blender and Director of Operations

Cubariqueño Cigar Company Founder Juan Cancel closed, “Like the Bass Reeves, we are proud to feature Phoebe Couzins as the newest addition to the Lawmen Series. It truly shows the diversity of law enforcement as a whole. Men and women from all races and ethnicities come together to serve the public at large.”

Blend and Origin:

Wrapper: Nicaragua Habano Oscuro

Binder: Jalapa

Fillers: Ligero Condega, Viso Esteli, and Viso Jalapa Corojo

Country of Origin: Nicaragua

Factory: San Lotano

Toro: 6 x 52 (Box Pressed)

The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a citrus/pear combination, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chocolate. There was black pepper rated at 8 1/2. A lot, to say the least. A very nice start.

At the first third (32 minutes) I had the same notes. The cigar is medium bodied but it's leaning toward medium to full already. The finish is pear and chocolate with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is very good. I rated the first third 95.

Moving through the second third (1 hour 2 minutes) some earthiness moved in. The notes are pretty much the same but they are "watered down" by the earthiness. It's not over the top but it definitely hurts the sweeter notes. The notes are light pear, light brown sugar, a little black coffee, light chocolate, and earthiness. I didn't notice the cinnamon any more. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is chocolate with very good lingering black pepper. The earthiness didn't hurt the overall enjoyment of the cigar much. I rated the second third 94.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 26 minutes. In the final third the earthiness was gone and the primary sweet note was citrus. It was sweet and juicy with brown sugar and cinnamon, chocolate, and black coffee. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is chocolate with a little of the citrus note and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar got very nice again. I rated the final third 95. These should be available the end of April so be sure to look for them. Both are very good.

Overall Score: 94.67
