Protocol Cigars has announced the long-awaited fourth installment to its Lawman Series, Protocol Phoebe Couzins.

Keeping with the tradition of the three prior installments, there are both Natural and Maduro offerings for Protocol Phoebe Couzins.

The Lawman Series pays homage to prominent figures in law enforcement history. The series is meant to deliver a premium offering in terms of blend and packaging.

Phoebe Couzins was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She became the first woman in United States history to graduate from a law school. Later, she would become one of the first female lawyers in the United States. In 1887, Phoebe Couzins became the first female U.S. Marshal in the country. Couzins was also a women’s rights activist; she was a member of the St. Louis Woman Suffrage Association, where she drew attention as a public speaker. Protocol honors women in law and law enforcement pioneer Couzins with this cigar during Women’s History Month.

The Phoebe Couzins Natural features an Ecuadorian Sumatra Rosado wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and all Nicaraguan fillers.

AJ Fernandez produces the cigars at the San Lotano Factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua. As with previous Lawman Series releases, the cigars are 6 x 52 box-pressed cigars in ten-count boxes. Each cigar is priced at $12.55 SRP.

“I am excited to see these cigars finally get released, I love the way both of these blends came together and are a nice addition to the Lawmen Series,” added Hector Alfonso Sr., Espinosa’s Blender and Director of Operations

Cubariqueño Cigar Company Founder Juan Cancel closed, “Like the Bass Reeves, we are proud to feature Phoebe Couzins as the newest addition to the Lawmen Series. It truly shows the diversity of law enforcement as a whole. Men and women from all races and ethnicities come together to serve the public at large.”

Fillers: Ligero Esteli, Viso Esteli Corojo, and Viso Condega.

Country of Origin: Nicaragua

Toro: 6 x 52 (Box Pressed)

The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus/pear, brown sugar, cinnamon, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 8+ and it was woven all through the flavors. Nice start.

At the first third (36 minutes) nothing has changed. I had the same notes. The black pepper is still very good. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is a little pear and leather with very good lingering black pepper. Plenty of black pepper in this cigar and I'm a fan of black pepper. I rated the first third 94.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 5 minutes) some earthiness has crept in. The notes were faint pear, brown sugar, cinnamon, faint toffee, and leather. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The black pepper is still very good. The finish is leather with very good lingering black pepper. The earthiness detracts a little. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 29 minutes. The sweetness came back and the earthiness pulled back. The notes are now more of a citrus with brown sugar and cinnamon. There is still leather at the base. The black pepper is still very good and mixed with all the flavors. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish has a little citrus with leather and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar got back to the same enjoyment as the first third so I went back to 94 for the final third. This is a good offering from Protocol and should be on your list.

Overall Score: 93.67
