Scandinavian Tobacco Group’s Forged Cigar Co. is adding a new limited edition El Rey del Mundo cigar that is the result of a collaboration with Justo Eiroa of JRE Tobacco.

It’s called King of the World—El Rey del Mundo is Spanish for the king of the world—and it is a 6 x 50 Honduran puro that uses a habano-seed wrapper, corojo binder and habano fillers to create what the company describes as a medium-strength smoke that offers “notes of citrus, cedar, light spice, and cream.”

“It was an honor to work with Justo Eiroa to create this limited edition for El Rey,” said Cory Beardsley, brand manager for El Rey del Mundo, via a press release. “El Rey del Mundo is a legendary name in the cigar industry, and this King of the World limited edition offers a nuanced smoking experience that will captivate enthusiasts and newcomers alike.”

The cigars are made at Eiroa’s Fábrica de Puros Aladino S.A. in Honduras. Production is limited to 2,000 boxes of 16 cigars, a total run of 32,000 cigars. This is the first time that the factory has made an El Rey del Mundo cigar, though it has partnered with STG for various other projects.

Pricing is set at $9.99 per cigar and $159.84 for a box of 16 cigars.

The cigar is well made and has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors were peach, apple, lime, brown sugar, earthiness, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice start.

At the first third (32 minutes) the ash is a little wanky but still intact. The front notes are now more of a peach/apricot, quite a bit of brown sugar, sprinklings of cinnamon, earthiness, and black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is peach with earthy black coffee and very good lingering black pepper. The flavors are mixing well. I rated the first third 94.

As I moved through the second third (58 minutes) there was a big change. The sweet notes decreased quite a bit and the earthiness rose substantially. The black coffee rose slightly. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with some earthiness and very good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 25 minutes. It made a nice bounce back in the final third. I had nice peach/apricot notes with brown sugar, light cinnamon, reduced earthiness, and black coffee. It got back very close to the way it was in the first third. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is peach with very good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 93. The middle section really hurt the cigar. Overall it's pretty good but the middle section is not up to the first or final thirds. These are available at smallbatchcigar.com in 4 packs for $64 but use code tinytim for 10% off with free shipping.

Overall Score: 92.67
