In June, the second Gellis Family Cigars line was shipped: Saunter. It is a 5 1/4 x 48 robusto that will have an MSRP of $15 and will be sold in boxes of 12.
The company declined to share blend details, though reportedly it will use an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over an undisclosed binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
Saunter is also a regular production cigar.
Produced at TABACALERA LA iSLA in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. While the lines do not have any Warped branding, they are distributed by Warped.
The cigar is a light brown and has an average to nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was a little firm so I used the PerfecDraw tool to open it up. The initial flavors at light up were pear, brown sugar, sprinkling of cinnamon, light black coffee, and raisin. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice start. A little different but nice.
At the first third (22 minutes) the cigar is burning very evenly and the ash is still intact. The flavors are about the same and the black coffee is coming out a little more which makes a nice base. There's a touch of earthiness. There seems to be some honey in the mix following the pear. The raisin is a little lighter but I can get it nicely on the finish, which is raisin with light black coffee and very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar is quite tasty. I rated the first third 94.
Moving through the second third (50 minutes) the flavors are mixing very well.. There's a little more honey and a little less raisin. The other notes are still in play. There's a little earthiness on the black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is earthy black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is not changing a lot. The notes are just increasing here and decreasing there. The cigar remains very good. I held the score of 94.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 14 minutes. The only major change is the earthiness increased a little. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The finish is unchanged. The earthiness did not hurt the cigar too bad. I rated the final third 93. Smallbatchcigar.com has these in 4 packs. Give them a try and use my code tinytim for 10% off.
