Las Calaveras 2019 LC46 (6 x 46)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-Coop.com website)
For the sixth year in a row, Crowned Heads has released its annual limited edition cigar, Las Calaveras. Since it was introduced in 2014, each release has featured a different wrapper. For the Crowned Heads Las Calaveras EL 2019, the release features an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper, the wrapper used on the first release of Las Calaveras.

Las Calaveras pays homage to those who have passed away over the past year. As opposed to being a mournful symbol, it is intended to be a celebration of those lives and remembrances of those who are no longer with us. In the past, the bands of each release of Las Calaveras have contained the initials of four individuals who have passed away. This year, the cigar contains the initials of one person – the late Cano Ozgener, founder of CAO Cigars who passed away last June. Crowned Heads co-founders Jon Huber and Mike Conder both worked with Ozgener at CAO Cigars.

The cigar looks very nice and it's well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was not very good. I decided to use the PerfecDraw tool to open the draw. The initial flavors at light up were a subtle orange citrus, citrus peel, brown sugar, dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, light leather, and a black coffee base. There was black pepper rated at a 7. The cigar has subtle sweetness.

At the first third (38 minutes) the sweetness continues to be very subtle. The nutmeg is now elevated and it mixes with the light leather. The black coffee base is also subtle. The predominant flavor is now nutmeg with subtle sweetness and other flavors. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is one of nutmeg and cream with some lingering black pepper. The black pepper on the front end seems to have risen just a bit. I rated the first third at 90.

At the second third (1 hour 20 minutes) the sweet notes elevated slightly. The cigar is becoming more enjoyable. The black coffee notes are a little more elevated. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish has a minor influence of citrus peel to go along with the nutmeg and cream. I raised the score for the second third to 91.

The cigar lasted an impressive 1 hour 48 minutes. In the final third the sweet notes dropped back to the lower levels they had in the first third. There are more dark notes at this point; toasted nutmeg, light leather, and black coffee. The cigar reached medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. For the final third I rated the cigar at 90. This is a cigar with subtle sweetness with quite a bit of nutmeg and light leather with black coffee. Overall Score: 90.33
