Video Review HERE.
Protocol Cigars debuted the new vitola, corona gorda, at the 2019 IPCPR.
The size measures 5 5/8 x 46 and is offered in 10-count boxes priced at $99.40, or $9.94 per cigar. The company has also produced the line in three other sizes, Toro (6 x 52), Robusto (5 x 52) and Lancero (7 1/2 x 38).
The Themis line uses an Ecaudorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan-grown binder and filler. It is produced at La Zona Cigar Factory in EstelĂ, Nicaragua and debuted in 2017.
The cigar is a light shade of brown and well made. It has an average feel in the hand for a corona gorda.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were a tangy tangerine/orange citrus, a lot of cream notes, nice amount of cinnamon, some brown sugar, and a light black coffee base. There was a nice amount of black pepper rated at 7 1/2.
At the first third the flavor notes are just like I described. The cream is very nice in this cigar. The citrus is quite tangy and now there is a lot of brown sugar and quite a bit of cinnamon. The black pepper is very dense in this cigar. It's at least a 7 1/2 and could be up to an 8. The finish is nutmeg, cream, and a touch of citrus. There is nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. For the first third I rated the cigar at 93.
Overall Score: 93.33
