Protocol Sir Robert Peel Natural Corona Gorda (5 5/8 x 46)

Video review HERE.

(Description provided by Protocol Cigars)

Protocol Cigars is proud to announce the first line extension in the Lawmen Series. The Sir Robert Peel, both natural and maduro, will be offered in a Corona Gorda 5-5/8 X 46 format. This time however, the company has gone to a round format as opposed to a box pressed format like it’s predecessor. The blends are exactly the same as the original offerings. The Protocol Sir Robert Peel Natural Corona Gorda will have the Ecuadorian Rosado wrapper, while the Maduro will have the Pennsylvania Broadleaf. Like the original release both will have the same exact Nicaraguan binder and filler. The MSRP for the Sir Robert Peel Corona Gorda in both offerings will be $11.50 per single stick and a box at $115.00. The cigar is being produced at La Zona in Esteli Nicaragua under the watchful eye of Hector Alfonso Sr. The Protocol Sir Robert Peel will be offered in 10 count boxes and will be a national ongoing full production release.

Juan Cancel, co-owner and founder stated the following... “The Sir Robert Peel was such a different project for us. We wanted to do something out of our comfort zone. It has been such a huge success that we want to expand the Lawmen Series with not only the Protocol Eliot Ness, but also with the Sir Robert Peel Corona Gorda. I can’t think of a better size to expand the Sir Robert Peel Line than with a Corona Gorda!”

Kevin Keithan, co-owner added... “This cigar in the Corona Gorda Size is absolutely fantastic. If your a fan of the original Sir Robert Peel, then you are going to adore this vitola. You taste so much more of the wrapper in the Corona Gorda. I think people will be very pleased!”

The cigar is quite nice looking and well made. It has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good with a touch of firmness. The initial flavors at light up were an orange citrus combining with peach, brown sugar, light caramel, nutmeg, light black coffee. There was a lot of black pepper rated at an 8. It lasts very long and actually acts as a base flavor. The cigar is very sweet. Very good start.

At the first third (30 minutes) all the flavor notes are still there and the caramel is developing. There is now a little more black coffee at the base which helps the cigar with depth. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is citrus, peach, nutmeg, and a lot of lingering black coffee. So far, this is a very good cigar. I rated the first third 95.

Moving through the second third (58 minutes) the cigar continued to be very sweet. The nutmeg seems to have risen in the second third. The sharp sweetness of the citrus and peach are toned down somewhat. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The rise in nutmeg did not hurt the cigar too much. I rated the second third 94.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. The sharp sweetness of the citrus and peach rebounded. The nutmeg went back to it's manageable amount. The cigar reached full bodied. The finish has more citrus and still has the very nice lingering black pepper. The original review on this cigar in the 6 x 52 size scored 93.33. To me, this is a better cigar. It probably is due to the smaller ring. This is a very good, sweet cigar with great flavors. The Protocol Sir Robert Peel Natural Corona Gorda is a winner. I rated the final third 95.
