Villiger Miami 2023 (5 7/8 x 53 Cañonazo)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com and Halfwheel.com websites)

It’s called Villiger Miami 2022 and no; it’s not made in Miami.

“We named the cigars Villiger Miami 2022 because, since the beginning of 2021, it has been the cigar we give to our friends, customers and colleagues when they visit our Miami office,” said Rene Castaneda, president of Villiger Cigars North America.

While it’s not made in Miami, the Villiger Miami pays homage to Villiger North America’s Headquarters in Miami, Florida. When it was released in 2022, it was said to be a private blend that was given to guests at the factory. The Villiger Miami 2023 is being made at the ABAM factory in the Dominican Republic.

According to Villiger, the Villiger Miami 2023 blend consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an undisclosed binder and fillers. The 2023 blend is being released in one size -a 5 7/8 x 53 Cañonazo.  The cigars are presented in ten-count boxes. Pricing is set at $17.00 per cigar.

The cigar is nicely made and has a average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were dry apricot, light brown sugar, a lot of earthiness, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Nice sweet notes but there is a lot of earthiness at the start.

At the first third (26 minutes) the apricot is joined with a little citrus. There might be a touch more brown sugar. There's still a lot of earthiness and light leather. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is leather with the slightest influence of leather and very good lingering black pepper. I would like the sweet notes to be a little better but the earthiness won't let them. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (53 minutes) the earthiness is not going away. I had light citrus, apricot, and brown sugar with heavy earthiness and leather. The earthiness has increased. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The earthiness is a distraction. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 18 minutes. The earthiness kept climbing. The sweet notes are the same but quite faint. The leather is also light. The black pepper has been good throughout. It's 8+ now. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is apricot and leather with very good lingering black pepper. This cigar would be very good if it weren't so earthy. I rated the final third 89. For comparison, the Laguito, a 7 1/2 x 38 cigar, which was last year's version, received a rating of 92.67. The extra filler in this cigar did not help.

Overall Score: 91
